The Story of Magnolia Homes
Karen Garner, the Founder and President of Magnolia Homes, is one hard-working Memphis belle. Since childhood, she has endeavored to be independent, surviving everything life has thrown at her. And she has succeeded, making her way to the forefront of the Memphis housing market.
Karen began Magnolia Homes in 1987, choosing the name because she thought people would remember it. “I plant a Magnolia tree in every yard so people will recognize our homes,” she says. Those trademark Magnolia trees are a familiar sight throughout the Memphis area.
As a woman in a male-dominated world, Karen realized that her gender gave her a competitive edge. She knew what women really wanted in a home! She found her niche with the “Karen Garner Collection,” homes that included special details like covered porches, plenty of closets, and cozy family gathering spaces. Those “extra touches” are part of Magnolia Homes’ signature style, and help give each Magnolia home a unique elegance and grace.
Karen’s son, Reggie Garner, Jr., became a partner in 2000, and initiated innovative ideas like cedar-beamed vaulted ceilings and outdoor fireplaces. Reggie’s enthusiasm for exterior designs introduced a new, more diverse look for Magnolia Homes, including a new style of architecture – French Country with a touch of American Southern. The “Karen Garner Collection” also continues to expand, reflecting the needs and desires of Magnolia’s homeowners. Magnolia Homes produces around 60 homes a year, and Karen and Reggie pride themselves on being involved from planning through closing.
With over 38 years of experience, hundreds of happy homeowners, and a son who is just as dedicated as she is, Karen Garner is secure in the knowledge that Magnolia Homes is a legacy she can be proud of.
